Los Canos de Meca, Coast of light

Hotels of Los Caños de Meca - in a list | on a map >>>
The beaches of los Caños de Meca and el Palmar are an example of the natural beauty and peace of Cadiz' coastline, la Costa de la Luz - the coast of light, also known as the forgotten coast - which for the moment has been more or less spared from massive speculation and construction.
The atmosphere at los Caños de Meca - el Palmar
...is very relaxed: mostly small groups of young people and a few families. The town of los Caños de Meca is not very big, but in summer there are several nice bars and restaurants, where you can have a drink, dinner, or go dancing. You can also simply enjoy a lovely evening stroll. Additionally you can also practice riding horse, hicking ot cicloturism.
From "el Faro de Trafalgar" up to the village of los Caños itself there is a variety of beaches to choose from. Most of them are nice and smooth with fine golden sand, but at the far end of Los Caños the environment gets rougher, with cliffs and large rocks on the seashore.
In addition to the beautiful environment, crossing this sometimes difficult "rocky" part, the beach offers another incentive, because here is where you can find the authentic "Caños", small falls of sweet water falling from the cliffs. This is where los Caños de Meca gets it's name from. This sweet water is the groundwater dropping from the cliffs that may reach up to 100 meters above the level of the sea.
On top of those cliffs lies the "Breña y marismas de Barbate" a small natural area which makes a beautiful contrast with the rocks and the sea and definitely worth while to visit when you're at los Caños de Meca.
Save "el Palmar" beach!!!
Vote against another speculation and construction project of the Junta de Andalucia in el Palmar, Costa de la Luz
AGAIN as many times before the Junta de Andalucia (regional government) allows speculations and major constructions on the ever diminishing number of unspoiled beaches in Spain. If you happen to know the beach of Palmar, you know how natural and free of constructions this beautiful beach is.
There is a special page where you can tell the government that already enough destroying of natural resources for economic benefit has been done: http://www.salvarelpalmar.es/ - Part of the Clean Ocean Project
